Newcastle United are reportedly set to rival Manchester United for the signing of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae.

The Serie A title winner has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for several months now - but talkSPORT claim that Eddie Howe's side are tracking the centre-back and could 'hijack' United's move. The 26-year-old is under contract for another couple of years at Napoli, but has a reported £42million release clause at his current contract.

In addition to speculation regarding Newcastle, The Telegraph report that Napoli have offered their defender a new contract - which would remove his release clause. It is claimed that no bids have yet been received by the Italian club - though Erik ten Hag, according to talkSPORT, is 'particularly keen to activate' his buyout clause.

Talk around Mason Mount's future also continues, as United remain the front runners to land the Chelsea midfielder - who is still to negotiate fresh terms at Stamford Bridge. Mount will enter the final year of his Blues' contract this summer and The Athletic report that the 24-year-old is 'readying for the move' to Old Trafford.

It's claimed that personal terms will not be an issue, with talks having been held between United and Chelsea directors. Ten Hag is said to view Mount as his ideal 'mobile number eight' - but there could be an issue over valuations of the player. Chelsea reportedly want £70million, while United have started off at £40m.

Mount was asked about United while at the Spanish Grand Prix last week and said: "I'm here just to enjoy this race today. Amazing day, can't wait to watch it."
