How Hibs could line up next season without Kevin Nisbet but Joel Nouble and ex-Rangers star in exciting new attack

HIBS have money to spend this summer following the sale of Kevin Nisbet to Millwall.

And boss Lee Johnson will believe they can move ahead of Aberdeen AND Hearts next season if they land their top targets.

The Easter Road gaffer has targeted quality over quantity as he looks to take the club on.

But with Conference League qualifiers to contend with he also needs strength in depth.

And that is likely to see a mix of loans and permanent signings over the coming months.

Jamie McGrath is a long-term target - Jack Ross thought he’d signed him back in 2021.

He is expected to be available with Wigan in financial trouble although Aberdeen are also keen.

And young Northern Ireland striker Lee Bonis is another they are keeping a close eye on, although it’s unlikely he’d start straight away.

Nisbet’s departure is obviously a blow given the guaranteed goals he brought to Johnson’s side.

The return of Martin Boyle from a cruciate injury will provide an immediate upgrade in attack.

But Hibs remain in need of a proven number nine to do the business in front of goal.

And with money in the bank they could try and tempt Livingston with a six-figure bid for Joel Nouble this close season.

Boss Johnson is a big fan of the job Davie Martindale has done at the Lions and the 27-year-old has been a big part of that.

And a front three of Nouble, Martin Boyle and Elie Youan could well give rival Premiership defences nightmares.

You can also be certain Johnson will have a keen eye on the free agent market at the moment.

Scott Arfield is an attractive target for a host of Premiership clubs following his release from Rangers at the end of the season.

And his arrival would make up for the disappointing departure of veteran Aiden McGeady.

The Hibs boss has also confirmed he wants loanees Will Fish and CJ Egan-Riley back.

That could see some familiar faces return with a number of new boys along with them.

And with the likes of Lewis Stevenson, Josh Campbell and Jake Doyle-Hayes and Kyle Magennis also around there will be plenty of competition for places.
