Ex-Spurs star Serge Aurier scores 'world-class own goal' that almost seems impossible

Veteran Ivory Coast full-back Serge Aurier left fans in awe by scoring one of the most bizarre yet spectacular own goals ever seen as they labelled it 'world class'

Former Tottenham star Serge Aurier’s spectacular own goal has left fans in stitches.

The Nottingham Forest defender was selected to play for Ivory Coast in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia on Saturday.

His side lost 3-0 on the day, with Aurier enduring a disasterclass to forget on his 82nd cap. And one moment in particular summed up the Elephants’ dismal display as the 30-year-old scored one of the most bizarre own goals ever from 25 yards out.

Aurier attempted to intercept a defence-splitting ball played by Zambia. But as he slid in to cut out the danger, the under-pressure right-back’s boot cannoned the ball back towards his own goal.

In unbelievable scenes, his attempted clearance looped over goalkeeper Charles Folly Ayayi, who made a complete hash of it by flapping the ball into his own net.

Zambia were left celebrating arguably the easiest goal they will ever score, while fans were left in heaps of laughter as the clip of Aurier’s unfortunate “world class own goal” went viral on social media.

Leicester's Patson Daka and Red Star Belgrade's Kings Kangwa netted Zambia's second and third goals in the second-half.
