Ireland 'abandon' Kuwait clash after 'racist remark' made towards U21s star

The young Irish side were taking on Kuwait in Austria as part of an international friendly before the game was abandoned.

A game between a Republic of Ireland youth side and Kuwait has been abandoned after a 'racist remark' was made towards an Under21s Irish player.

The Irish youth side were in action in Austria as part of a friendly against Kuwait's Under22s outfit and found themselves 2-0 up at half time with goals from Ollie O'Neill and Conor Carty providing a top start for the youngsters. The game was well in to the second before it was announced on social media that the clash had been 'abandoned'.

A statement from the FAI confirmed that a 'racist remark' had been made by an opposition player towards a substitute in the Ireland side.

It read: "The FAI regrets to announce that today’s U21 international against Kuwait has been abandoned after a racist remark was made by a Kuwaiti player towards one of our substitutes.

"The FAI does not tolerate any racism towards any of our players or staff and will be reporting this serious matter to FIFA and UEFA."
