Gavin Strachan rejects 'lucrative' Celtic exit chance as he sticks with Brendan Rodgers despite English boss offer

The Parkhead coach has turned down the chance to walk away and said no to a healthy financial package in the process.

Gavin Strachan has rejected the chance to become manager of Shrewsbury Town and instead will stay at Celtic.

The coach was wanted as part of Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham backroom staff alongside Parkhead assistant John Kennedy after the Aussie swapped Glasgow for North London. But he has committed to the project about to begin under returning manager Brendan Rodgers and according to the Scottish Sun, he has knocked back the chance to become a leading man in his own right.

English League Two side Shrewsbury Town were keen on making him their gaffer and 'they tabled TWO big money offers to lure the 44 year-old south - with their latest swoop made in the last 24 hours.' Rodgers "was adamant he didn’t want to lose the respected coach"' and Strachan "has rejected their advances after making it clear he wants to be part of Rodgers’ Parkhead return" with pre-season kicking off soon.

It brings an end to weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future. The deal has been further described as 'lucrative' at Shrewsbury but their hopes have been dampened in a boost to the Parkhead stars who have struck up a close bond with their coach.
