Morgan Whittaker wanted as Rangers transfer target No.1 choice for Swansea rivals amid striker hunt

Michael Beale has been an admirer of the former England youth international for some time.

Coventry City are eyeing Rangers target Morgan Whittaker as the Sky Blues line up a replacement for Viktor Gyokeres, according to a report.

Michael Beale was keen to land Whittaker in the January transfer window but the Light Blues failed with several bids for the 22-year-old who was on loan at Plymouth Argyle before returning to Swansea. The winger was keen to move on. But the Welsh club refused to sell.

Record Sport revealed back in April that Beale was set to revive his interest in the former Derby County man but Coventry City are said to have made him one of their main summer transfer targets as they look to fill the boots of sensational Swede Gyokeres who is almost certain to depart the Coventry Building Society Arena. International frontman Gykores netted 21 goals last season but Coventry City just came up short in their bid to reach the English Premier League as they lost out to Luton Town in the play-off final.

The Swede is unlikely to stick around in England’s second tier and Coventry boss Mark Robins must prepare for life without him - and that could include Whittaker. One report states: "Coventry will target Swansea striker Morgan Whittaker to replace Victor Gykores with the in-demand Swede set to leave this summer. Glasgow Rangers and Plymouth remain big fans of Whittaker but Coventry now have their eye on the frontman.”
