Manchester United are refocusing their efforts elsewhere after agreeing a £60million for Chelsea's Mason Mount on Thursday.

The midfielder will undergo a medical once he returns from holiday, having already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract. His arrival represents the first of three priority positions being filled.

Erik ten Hag will now set his sights on a first-choice goalkeeper and a world-class No.9, although concerns over Financial Fair Play mean a compromise will likely be necessary in one area.

United have reportedly been priced out of the race for Andre Onana, leading them to speculation saying they have made contact with Feyenoord over the availability of their goalkeeper, Justin Bijlow. The 25-year-old was hugely impressive last season and better suits Ten Hag's playing style.

Upfront, interest remains in the likes of Randal Kolo Muani and Rasmus Hojlund, with the latter reportedly subject to a €35million bid.

In terms of outgoings, Jadon Sancho was said to be the subject of a loan bid from his former club Borussia Dortmund. United apparently rejected the offer but would seemingly be open to a permanent sale.

And David De Gea us set for face-to-face talks over a new deal once he returns from getting married, having been released upon the end of his contract on Friday. However Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr have reportedly made the 32-year-old a summer target, hoping to reunite him with Cristiano Ronaldo.

OPINION: United doing what Liverpool wish they had done with Mount signing

Central midfield has become a key battleground in this transfer window and Manchester United have managed to contribute to the spending spree with a potential £60millon deal for Mason Mount.

Liverpool are close to signing their second midfielder of the summer, Manchester City have already signed one and Arsenal are pushing to add Declan Rice to Kai Havertz in their own rebuild in that area of the pitch.

It's Liverpool who have had to be busy through necessity. Their engine room kept cutting out last year and the loss of power condemned them to a season without Champions League football.

Jurgen Klopp let his midfield grow old together and they left it one year too late to start the rebuild. The addition of Alexis Mac Allister is a shrewd one and Dominik Szoboszlai also looks like being a good signing as well, but the fact is they are making up for lost time.

Premier League rule change has made transfer decision even easier

There are a lot of big decisions for Erik ten Hag to make this summer as he looks to take his Manchester United rebuild to the next level.

After agreeing a deal to bring Mason Mount to the club, next up will be the task of adding a striker and a goalkeeper to his side, as well as strengthening any other areas they can afford to.

This is always easier said than done, and a key component of this summer's transfer activity will be the players they manage to sell and those they loan out.

With so many variables at play, Ten Hag is in an unenviable position, though one of his decisions might have been made a lot easier due to an upcoming change in Premier League rules.
