Wayne Rooney chooses Riqui Puig for MLS All-Stars

Since signing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, Riqui Puig has become one of the biggest names in MLS. Each team in the American league can name three players who are eligible for special salary conditions. The former Barça midfielder is one of them as the team's franchise player. 

This is just one example of Riqui Puig's status with the LA Galaxy but it is also worth noting his status as a star player in the league itself. It has been made clear by Rooney's selection of him in the squad for a friendly against Arsenal on 19 July in Washington DC. 

This is a friendly, where a Wayne Rooney-coached squad of MLS players will take on the English team. It is not just the former United player who has been involved in the selection. Fans, players and media representatives have also voted for 12 players.

Rooney, as coach of this All-Star team, decided on 12 more and the last two were selected by Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber. Some of the most prominent players who will be part of the team are Thiago Almada, Denis Boaunga, Jordan Morris, Christian Benteke and Riqui Puig himself.
