Celtic transfer news bulletin as Fabian Rieder breaks silence while Ajeti and Soro exit routes blocked
The highly-rated Swiss international could prove to be a landmark signing following Brendan Rodgers return to Celtic Park.
Celtic linked Fabian Rieder has opened up on his future away from Young Boys amid interest from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer.
The Swiss international midfielder has reportedly attracted admiring glances from Parkhead boss Brendan Rodgers as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging in the Champions League next term - with the Scottish Premiership champions boasting a massive transfer kitty to back the manager in his pursuit of European glory. However, the 21-year-old is in demand this summer - with the Bern outfit starting the bidding at £13million according to Swiss outlet Blick .
The report claims that Bundesliga side Gladbach have made the first move this summer but have had an initial offer of £8.5million rejected for the rising star. In an interview, Rieder has dropped a strong hint that he has set his sights on a move to Germany this summer while he would also consider the English Premiership - which could put Celtic on the back foot if they join the signing race.
He told Blick : "I've been following the Bundesliga since I was a child, but I'm also open to other leagues. The Premier League for example. But if I could choose, it would be the Bundesliga."
In terms of outgoings at Celtic Park, Albian Ajeti has seen one route completely close. The striker had spent last season on loan at Sturm Graz with the Austrian side initially claiming they had been priced out of making the temporary deal permanent.
With the Swiss international unlikely to get a chance under Rodgers, the Hoops could have returned to the negotiating table in a bid to flop the flop frontman. However, Kleine Zeitung report that any return for the 26-year-old has been ruled out by Sturm following the signing of Szymon Wlodarczyk.
Ismaila Soro also has seen any potential Celtic Park exit route collapse after a successful loan spell at FC Arouca. The midfielder helped the side claim European football with a fifth place finish in the Primeira Liga.
But Portuguese outlet JN claim a return is now off the table following his return to Celtic. Former Parkhead flop Eboue Kouassi has been snapped up from Genk to replace Soro.
