Classy Ramsey gesture
England's Under-21 team paid tribute to injury-stricken Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey in the wake of their historic European Championship win.
A deflected goal in first-half stoppage time by Liverpool's Curtis Jones and a late penalty save from goalkeeper James Trafford helped to seal the Young Lions' first Euros title in 39 years.
But Lee Carsley's team were without Ramsey after the midfielder limped off during the quarter-final win over Portugal, with the injury ruling him out of the rest of the tournament. It was later revealed that he will miss the first month of Villa's Premier League season too with a broken metatarsal.
Villa fixtures rescheduled
Four of Aston Villa's first seven Premier League games have been rescheduled, with two matches picked for TV coverage.
Villa's first home game of the season against Everton has been moved to Sunday, August 20 and will be shown live on Sky Sports. The match against the Toffees at Villa Park will kick-off at 2pm.
Then, Villa's trip to Turf Moor has been rearranged for Sunday, August 27 due to their involvement in the Europa Conference League play-offs. Villa will play the first leg of their play-off three days before the game against newly-promoted Burnley, on Thursday, August 24.
Barnes transfer update
Newcastle United are confident of winning the race to sign Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes.
The 25-year-old has been a target for Aston Villa and West Ham this summer, but Newcastle have stepped up their pursuit and hope to reach an agreement with Leicester for his transfer next week. Villa have identified several transfer targets who can add depth to their forward line, and have not yet opened concrete talks with Leicester over signing Barnes this summer.
Barnes is thought to have viewed Villa as a very attractive option for a number of reasons, while West Ham's move for the winger has been held up by Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal, as they wait to bring money in before potentially formalising their strong interest with a bid.
Young linked with move
Former Aston Villa star Ashley Young "has been offered" to Everton and Luton Town, it is claimed.
Young departed the Villans at the end of his contract on July 1 after making more than 200 appearances over two separate spells at the club.
And Football Correspondent Jacque Talbot has claimed the Toffees and promoted Luton have "been offered" the chance to sign the 37-year-old, who has also played for Manchester United and Inter Milan during a lengthy playing career.
