Manchester United's young midfielder Charlie Savage will hope to impress Erik ten Hag having been called up to the first team for pre season.

Savage made headlines last season when his father Robbie Savage reacted to his first senior goal while playing on loan for Forest Green Rovers. It was his only goal but 15 appearances in League One will serve his career well - with United hopeful of the 20-year-old's long-term potential.

He has represented Wales at youth level and earned his first U21 call-up in 2022, albeit he made headlines earlier this year for not accepting a call-up to the U21 squad in order to remain with Forest Green.

He arrives back at United with a bigger profile than before - with his successes last season hoped to provide the momentum necessary to push on with the aim of reaching United's first team. He has discussed his hopes for next season, revealing his plan to work hard upon his return to United.

"I think it's tough to say at the minute," Savage said, addressing his plans for next season. "Obviously it's everyone's dream to make it at United when you've come through here as a boy, so I have to work as hard as I can and see where it takes me.

"I went on the tour in pre-season to Thailand and Australia. I spent the first two, three months of the season with them every day, so it was a really, really good experience learning from him and taking knowledge from him. I think United have had a really good season, winning the Carabao Cup and potentially winning an FA Cup, so I'd say he's done a really good job.

"I'd have liked to make my debut for Wales. I think that's the next one, not to tick off as such but that's my next aim along with just playing at the highest level I can. Whether that be on a better loan, at United or whatever it is. Football works in weird ways. you never know where you're going to be until maybe a week before."
