Is Maya Le Tissier related to Matt Le Tissier? Lionesses Women’s World Cup star shares name with Premier League legend

As England look to experience more major tournament success this summer, fans may spot a familiar name on the team sheet.
The Lionesses have called up defender Maya Le Tissier for the Women’s World Cup as part of the standby list for the tournament.
Le Tissier has starred for Manchester United in the WSL and has now travelled to Australia to be part of Sarina Wiegman’s squad down under.
The 20-year-old is looking to make her own name in the sport, however, fans will be curious if there is any relation to a very well-known Premier League legend.
Surprisingly, there is no relation between Maya and Matt Le Tisser.
Both players were born in Guernsey and of course, share the same surname, but that is purely by coincidence.
Although there is a connection between the two great footballers.
Maya’s father Darren used to play alongside Matt locally in Guernsey and the two families do reportedly know each other.
After playing local football as a youngster, Matt then went on to make 443 appearances for Southampton, scoring 161 goals and becoming a legend at the club.
And now Maya is now making her own way through her footballing career, playing 22 times in the WSL last season only four years after leaving her local youth team.
Her stock is consistently rising and the future is looking bright, with this upcoming experience at the World Cup sure to benefit the young star.
Despite there being no relation, Maya will be aiming to follow in her namesake’s footsteps by building a successful playing career.
