A transfer fee was agreed between the clubs with the Croatian then settling on personal terms with Fabio Pecchia’s side that will see him reportedly earn around £12,300 a week after tax.

A Rangers statement read: "Rangers can today confirm the departure of Antonio Colak to Parma for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance

"The Croatian international striker, 29, hit 18 goals in 39 appearances for the Light Blues in his one season at the club having joined from PAOK last summer.

"His strikes included three in UEFA Champions League qualifying, with one of those being the crucial winner away in Eindhoven to send Gers to the group stages for the first time in 12 years.

"He tied with skipper James Tavernier for the club’s top goalscorer last season after netting in what was his final appearance for the club against St Mirren in May.

"He departs Ibrox with the thanks of everyone at the Ibrox for his contribution, and also best wishes for the future."

Boss Michael Beale added: "Antonio can be really proud of his time here at Rangers. He scored goals and made a good contribution on the pitch but also as a man and professional, he was someone that I enjoyed working with and who built strong relationships with his team mates and staff off the pitch.

"We initially had a conversation at the end of last season, where we discussed football, his family and also what the future would look like in terms of the team. Antonio was very honest on his side and we have been working with him and his agent in the following weeks to find a solution that suits all parties. I am pleased for him to have this excellent opportunity in Italy.

"He took the time to speak to all the staff and squad in Germany to say goodbye and thank you. This moment typified Antonio’s class as a man. Everyone at Rangers would like to wish him and his family huge success moving forwards and he will always have a warm welcome at Ibrox."

Colak becomes the sixth first-team player to move on from Ibrox since the end of last season – following Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield, Alfredo Morelos, Filip Helander and Allan McGregor out the door.

The striker made an instant impression in the early days by netting 13 goals in his first 16 games.

But after picking up an injury he struggled to hit those highs again after the World Cup break.

Beale has already moved to strengthen his squad in the forward areas by landing Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and Abdallah Sima.

And a move for Feyenoord striker Danilo is also in the pipeline.

That seemed to spell the end for Colak and Parma have moved quickly to add him to their squad.
