Cardiff City have named West Brom front-man Karlan Grant as their fourth summer signing.

The Bluebirds, who are also on the brink of capturing Wales captain Aaron Ramsey, announced the Grant news at tea-time on Saturday.

It is another signing that will excite Cardiff fans, 25-year-old Grant having joined the Baggies from Huddersfield for an eye-watering £15million just three years ago.

Grant netted that money-spinning move after bagging 23 goals in 56 appearances across the Premier League and the Championship in two years with Huddersfield. His 19 goals in 43 Championship matches during the 2019-20 campaign was the fourth highest tally in the league that season.

Things haven't gone so well at the Hawthorns and Grant sees the move to Erol Bulut's team as an opportunity to get his career back on track with lots of goals.

He joins on a season's loan, Cardiff unable to pay fees for players because of the EFL transfer embargo they are under this summer.

Grant said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates and the manager and get started.

"I spoke with the manager and he said nothing but good things about the club. I know how big the stadium is and I know how good the crowd can be. I’ve got a few friends here as well.

“Callum Robinson and I got on really well when we were at West Brom, and we’re actually still very close. He’s a good friend of mine and we complement each other when we play together, so hopefully we can replicate that.”

Commenting on his new recruit, Bluebirds boss Bulut said: “Karlan will bring goals, speed and work rate to this team. He works hard on the pitch, not just offensively but in defence as well.

“We have a few players like Karlan who can play in different positions. He can play as a winger, but we can also use him as a striker and a second striker.

“I am very excited, and happy that we have these attacking players. They are good goalscorers and playmakers who can make assists. They can win games and change the table by getting results for us.”

Bulut has already brought in Yakou Meite and Ike Ugbo to bolster the forward line, with Greek international centre-half Dimitrios Goutas on board to bring solidity at the back and leadership to the dressing room.

Cardiff's arch-rivals Swansea City tried to sign Grant themselves in the January window, with then boss Russell Martin so keen he was prepared to make the striker the club's highest-paid player. However, West Brom pulled the plug on the deal at the 11th hour, although they have been more open to letting him join Cardiff this summer.

Bulut suddenly has an abundance of forward players to choose from, with newcomers Grant, Meite and Ugbo joining Robinson, Kion Etete, Isaak Davies and Max Watters in Cardiff's striker stable. Watters seems set to join another club this summer.

Also in the mix, of course, are Rubin Colwill and Ramsey, when he comes on board, as they will be playing in advanced positions too. Also, Callum O'Dowda will be hoping to put down his credentials to Bulut for a left-wing berth, while Sheyi Ojo is on the club's books.

This is unlikely to be the end of Cardiff's transfer activity, with further targets also being lined up.
