Diego Carlos delivers 'stronger' Aston Villa message ahead of new season

Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos has said he is returning from his injury "much stronger" ahead of the new season.
The Brazilian arrived in B6 last summer from La Liga side Sevilla amid huge excitement at his arrival. But disaster struck for the centre-back on his Villa Park debut in August that year as he ruptured his achilles tendon, ruling him out of action for over six months.
Carlos made just three appearances in 2022/23 due to his horror injury. He returned to competitive action back in March during a 1-0 defeat at Wolves in the Premier League.
The 30-year-old was in action for Villa again on Saturday against Walsall in pre-season. He played for just over an hour in a 1-1 draw.

And ahead of a season of high expectations at Villa Park, Carlos could not sound more pleased going into the new campaign.
"I'm happy for the huge amount of fans who left positive messages wishing an incredible season," he said on Instagram. "Thank you for the support and strength you always gave me.
"I'm coming out of an injury much stronger and ready to go back to doing what I love. Your affection, the positive messages were very important for my recovery," he added followed by a red love heart and lion emoji.
Villa face Newcastle United in their opening fixture of the new season on August 12 at St James' Park (kick-off 5:30pm).
