Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds buys £4m London home – right by Ted Lasso set

Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's takeover and success with the football club has already earned them comparisons to hit TV show Ted Lasso, with the former now going a step further

Ryan Reynolds has mirrored Ted Lasso by buying a £4million home in south-west London.

The actor has been living a football fairytale since taking over Wrexham AFC alongside fellow Hollywood star Rob McElhenney in 2020. The pair’s incredible story with the Welsh club, who they guided to promotion into League Two last season, has already been dubbed a "real-life Ted Lasso".

It refers to the hit Apple TV+ comedy-drama series, which is based on an American football coach from the United States who takes charge of fictional south-west London football club AFC Richmond.

And now Reynolds has gone another step towards recreating the Jason Sudeikis-played character by buying a new luxury pad where the show is set.

The Deadpool star has previously made no secret of his love for the UK, stating that both he and his actress wife Blake Lively thoroughly enjoy their trips. They even visited the Great British Bake Off tent last month.

It was reported earlier this year that Reynolds and Lively had bought a £1.5m home in rural north Wales, where Wrexham are based.

Now they have put down roots in the capital by moving to a five-bedroom house in London while Reynolds shoots the third instalment of Marvel Studios film Deadpool.

According to the Daily Mail, a source close to the Hollywood couple said: “Ryan and Blake just love Britain, it has become a real second home for them. They have made some really good friends in the UK, so it made sense to have a proper base here.

“While they love Wrexham, a lot of their work is taking place in London so it seemed to make more sense to be there rather than Wales. The UK is small compared to America, so nowhere is actually that far.”

They join other A-listers such as Brad Pitt in spending time in the affluent area of London, along with the actual Ted Lasso star Sudeikis while he played the character.
