Johnstone Burgh blast ‘lies’ over Lafferty & Dorrans as club tells fans threatening to stay away ‘that’s up to you’

JOHNSTONE BURGH chiefs have blasted those who have criticised the signings of Kyle Lafferty and Graham Dorrans.

The West of Scotland First Division side snapped up former Rangers midfielder Dorrans in May before adding the Northern Ireland striker to their ranks this month.

The signing of Lafferty put the seventh tier club on the map but the Burgh have since been met with heavy criticism over the transfers.

Many have questioned how the club are financing the moves while several others have expressed concerns over the two players' history in the game.

But Johnstone Burgh have now told punters threatening to stay away from games: "That's up to you."

In a lengthy statement, the club revealed they have now been taken over by new owners with the vision of building a team capable of reaching the professional leagues in years to come.

It continued: "Johnstone Burgh is and always will be a club for all members of the community regardless of age, race, religion of gender.

"If people want to use previous clubs of our marquee signings as a reason to stay away from the club then that's up to them.

"These were the players that were identified who were available and we negotiatied and struck deals with.

"They have over 100 international caps between them and played at the highest level in both Scotland and England and abroad. You cannot put a price on that experience.

"We intend to bring the glory years back to the the club and give the town a successful club to be proud of which it has sorely missed for many years.

"The negativity we received, and the lies posted on social media - based on gossip- only makes us more determined to build this club to be a proper community club where everyone is welcome, regardless of what colours they may wear or may have worn."
