Celtic transfer state of play on Tete, Hyeok-kyu and Evans as Said Hamulic suffers ignominy after THAT video gaffe
Brendan Rodgers is on the verge of four new signings but it's unlikely the Irishman will stop there.
The decision from Brendan Rodgers to say yes to a Celtic return was weighted by a number of factors.
But the Irishman made it abundantly clear taking on the world's best in the Champions League whet his appetite with the option to take time out the game also on the table. But his Leicester end game has merely added to his desire for success. And Dermot Desmond's winning pitch will have been backed with the pledge of funds to make Euro dreams come true.
Jota's bumper £25m exit further boosts the Celtic coffers but the arrivals so far have been young talents with the chance to improve. Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio will soon be joined by Kwon Hyeok-kyu and Yang Hyun-jun. A quartet identified over a significant period with the chance to bolster the Parkhead hit rate to their globe-trotting search for untapped talent.
But box office arrivals will follow and Record Sport runs the rule on the state of play as Rodgers and Co ramp up their pre-season preparation with their tour of Japan.
Tete
All the transfer checks are being ticked for the looming free agent. The Brazilian winger is leaving Shakhtar Donetsk and a report in Ukraine stated Celtic are the favourites for the 23-year-old. That was followed up with a classic cryptic airport pic hinting at a new adventure. And now another report has doubled down on the Premiership champions being the leaders for his services. The right-sided wide man knows Brendan Rodgers well as the Irishman signed him on loan for Leicester before his exit amid a season to forget.
The Brazil youth international has a valuation of £16million but his next club won't have to pay a fee for a player who likely a sizeable wage with a host of clubs keeping tabs.
Kwon Hyeok-kyu
Incoming Celtic star Kwon Hyeok-kyu has revealed he's already spoken to countryman, Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu, who urged him to go to Glasgow several months ago. The 22-year-old Busan IPark midfielder is set to complete a move to Parkhead after his club confirmed the transfer and he will join up with countryman Yang Hyun-Jun.
He said: "In the winter, I contacted him, but I haven't managed to speak to him since the transfer was announced. He told me last winter that there were a lot of Japanese players at Celtic and that I needed to go there quickly! Going to Europe is a new challenge. It won't be easy at first. I may not be able to adapt initially, but I will not be mentally shaken. I will continue to challenge myself and if there is a slump, I will handle it wisely. At Celtic, I intend to be a success and I hope it will also help me get international recognition too."
Said Hamulic
Former Celtic target Said Hamulic looks set to leave Toulouse imminently after delaying his return from holiday for the new season. The Bosnian international was a target for Ange Postecoglou in the last transfer window, but opted to move to France with Toulouse from Polish club Stal Mielec.
However, the move has been a disaster for him. He's failed to score or even contribute with an assist in the nine games he played for Toulouse and admitted last month while on international duty, he would be considering his future over the summer after changing his agents too. And last week he raised eyebrows after bizarrely posting a promotional video of himself 'signing' for the Hoops on social media...before quickly deleting it.
Now he's heaped further doubt on his future after extending his holiday in Bosnia rather than return for pre-season training and he was absent from his side's first friendly of the season against Montpellier. Reports in France have indicated Hamulic is free to go for a fraction of the £2.5 million the French club paid for him. Last month he admitted he may move this summer.
He said: "I don't know if I will stay in Toulouse. I don't know what the plans are and what will happen. When I get home, I'll think about it. It was a difficult season for me, also mentally. But when you look at my career, I always come back stronger. This will also be the case next season."
Hamulic was top scorer for his club in Poland before opting to move to France. But his move has not worked out amid reports he's even missed training sessions in Toulouse and he looks set to embark on a new challenge.
Jonny Evans
Brendan Rodgers is reportedly still looking to land Jonny Evans on a short-term deal as he seeks defensive reinforcements for his Celtic plans.
The Hoops boss is currently waiting to see how centre-back mainstay Cameron Carter-Vickers recovers from a knee injury, leaving Carl Starfelt, Stephen Welsh and Yuki Kobayashi as the recognised central defenders. Tomoki Iwata can also drop into a back four but the Belfast Telegraph claim Rodgers 'is hoping to bring Jonny Evans to Parkhead in a short term deal.'
He is currently without a club since leaving Leicester City and has been training with former club Manchester United for fitness. Rumours had circulated that a deal for the 35-year-old Northern Irishman was not in Celtic thinking for this summer but his former boss at the King Power stadium 'now wants a reunion.'
