Johnstone Burgh reveal why Kyle Lafferty STILL hasn’t made debut as fans question ex-Rangers star’s absence

JOHNSTONE BURGH hit the headlines last week when they signed former Rangers and Hearts star Kyle Lafferty.

But despite playing two matches since, the 35-year old STILL hasn't turned out for the seventh tier club.

West of Scotland First Division outfit Johnstone announced the shock signing of Lafferty just over a week ago.

The Northern Ireland international was a free agent having left Linfield in the summer.

He'll be playing seven tier football having been still been a Premiership player as recently as February when he departed Kilmarnock.

Lafferty links up at Keanie Park with another high profile arrival in the form of ex-Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans.

But while former Scotland cap Dorrans has been featuring for his new club during pre-season - Lafferty has yet to pull on the team's red jersey.

Fans turning up to Saturday's clash with Hurlford United might've been disappointed not to see the striker in action.

And they travelled to Ayrshire last night to take on Auchinleck Talbot, being edged-out 3-2 in an entertaining clash.

But once again, there was no sign of Lafferty.

Johnstone posted their team news on social media shortly before kick-off and many noticed the absence of the former Burnley and Hearts forward.

One fan questioned: "Interesting. No big signing. Fitness issue?"

But the club were quick to allay any fears of any injury or fitness problems, and revealed why Lafferty hadn't yet featured.

They revealed to the fan that the striker is simply on holiday.

Johnstone's competitive season gets underway the weekend after next.

Their first league clash of the season sees them travel to face Renfrew on July 29th and that could be where fans get their first glimpse of Lafferty in the seventh tier.
