Theo Walcott's move to Arsenal from Southampton as a 16-year-old is the current transfer record after the Gunners previously forked out £9.1m after paying an initial £5m.

Fletcher snr, who played over 300 games for United and won 10 major trophies with the club, is believed to be driving the effort to bring them to the club.

The duo are both currently on schoolboy deals, but will be eligible for their first professional contracts with United poised to snap them up when they turn 17 on March next year.

United have been keeping an eye on the pair given their prestigious academy history of producing top talents, while preliminary talks for a transfer are believed to have already taken place and the final details set to be signed off soon.

City's academy have won four U18 and three U16 titles in the past four seasons, with United lagging behind after falling behind their rivals.
