Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham gives verdict on Mason Mount and Andre Onana
Man United have strengthened their squad with the signings of Andre Onana and Mason Mount this summer.
Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has praised his old club for completing the signings of Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer.
Following a slow start to the transfer window, United have bolstered both their midfield and goalkeeping departments over the last three weeks with two statement signings. Mount was snapped up from Chelsea in early-July for a fee understood to be in the region of £60million while Onana finalised his switch to Old Trafford from Inter Milan last week for an initial fee of £47.2m.
Manager Erik ten Hag had made signing a new midfielder one of his leading objectives this summer and he had installed Mount as his primary target before last season had even reached its conclusion. The England international brings fresh energy to United's midfield, as well as ball-playing expertise and a creative nous.
He has made three appearances for the club in this summer's pre-season campaign so far, starting in the No.8 position on each occasion. And that is the position that Sheringham, like Mount himself, considers as his best role.

"I really like Mason Mount," Sheringham told Lord Ping. "I think he's got good qualities. He's very professional, very focused in what he does.
"He's joining United and I'm not sure what his best role in the team is. I see him as more of an eight in a midfield-three – I don't think he scores or creates enough goals to be considered an out-and-out No.10.
"I hope that he can join in and create chances for United's attacking players, while chipping in with a few goals himself."
As for the addition of Onana, United did not head into this transfer window with the intention of signing a new first-choice goalkeeper. David de Gea was expected to sign a new contract and possibly continue as the club's No.1.
However, United, in the end, had doubts about retaining his services after a series of errors towards the end of last term. Onana, who worked with Ten Hag at Ajax, was quickly identified as the Spaniard's ideal replacement and he will bring an array of different qualities to Old Trafford.
Sheringham added: "I like Mount. I think that is a good acquisition for the club.
"Ten Hag knows Onana well, so I presume he's going to be good. I've heard a lot of positive comments from people at the club about his ability and he is very confident with the ball at his feet.
"If Ten Hag was happy to let David De Gea leave the club, then you have to believe that United are upgrading in the goalkeeper position."
