Tom Heaton's glowing Andre Onana verdict as he lifts lid on new Manchester United arrival

Man United goalkeeper Tom Heaton is enjoying working alongside summer signing Andre Onana.

Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton is confident he and Andre Onana can support each other following the latter's arrival at Old Trafford.

United, who brought their pre-season campaign to a close with a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Sunday, swooped for Onana last month after David de Gea left the club. United manager Erik ten Hag worked with the 27-year-old at Ajax and was keen to be reunited with him in M16.

The Cameroonian, who played a key role in Inter Milan's run to last season's Champions League final, has been signed for his ball-playing capabilities with the shot-stopper regarded as one of the best distributors in the business. As a result Onana is expected to help United transform their style and become the possession-based team Ten Hag wants.

Onana made his first Old Trafford outing against RC Lens on Saturday and offered glimpses of his capabilities. Heaton was given the nod in goal against Bilbao in Dublin and revealed post-match that he has enjoyed working with Onana so far, backing him to suit Ten Hag's style perfectly.

"He has been great. He is a real good lad and a great character," Heaton told MUTV. "I have really enjoyed the style of his play, I think he will suit this manager and how he wants to play really well.

"Hopefully I can learn a bit from him. I know I am getting older but I am always trying to develop and evolve. Hopefully I can offer him something about Premier League football and the requirements and the different challenges. He and I have got on really well so far and I am looking forward to working with him and competing with him."
