Emi Buendia has been inundated with messages of support from his Aston Villa team mates after suffering a serious knee injury.

Villa confirmed the 26-year-old suffered a "significant ligament injury" during training on Wednesday. He will be under review ahead of a further consultation with a knee specialist.


Taking to social media following the news, he wrote: "If my parents taught me anything since I was a kid, it’s never to give up, and this bad time I have to live is no exception.


"Already positive and minded in a good and speedy recovery. Thank you very much for all the messages."

John McGinn, Emi Martinez, Jacob Ramsey and Ezri Konsa all replied with love hearts in support of Buendia. Former Villa defender Matt Targett was also among the replies, as he said: "Speedy recovery bro."

Villa boss Unai Emery meanwhile, said in his press-conference on Thursday afternoon: "He is now visiting the doctors to take the best decision, but it’s a ligament concern. Of course, now, we have to support him and try to recover as soon as possible.

"Always it's tough, always. We are not speaking about an injury for one week, two weeks, two months, including three months. It is an injury for six, seven, eight months. It's really a tough moment for him and we were really yesterday very sad about the news."
