DOUBLE DEAL

Rabbi Matondo linked with English club as Rangers boss Michael Beale ‘reignites interest in defender’

RABBI MATONDO could be on his way out of Glasgow despite only arriving at Ibrox 12 months ago.

The out-of-favour winger has been tipped to leave Rangers this summer as Michael Beale revamps his side in the transfer window.

And an exit route has emerged for the 22-year-old after he was reportedly in the stands at Elland Road watching Leeds' opening day clash against Birmingham.

New boss Daniel Farke salvaged a point in his first game as manager after Crysencio Summerville scored a stoppage time goal to make it 2-2 after Liam Cooper, Josh Bowler and Ike Ugbo's earlier strikes.

And according to Football Insider, Matondo was in attendance - suggesting he could be closing in on a move down south.

The Wales international struggled for regular minutes last season despite joining from Schalke in a deal worth around £3million.

Matondo only started eight matches in the Scottish Premiership last season and was reportedly told by Beale that he is free to leave the club this summer.

The Englishman has opted for a new approach with his new-look team and is prioritising the middle of the park instead of using wingers.

It could leave Matondo in limbo this year, opening the door for Leeds to snatch him up.

Beale has been very busy in the transfer market but it's suggested he's not done just yet.

The manager has spent around £14million to improve his attacking areas with Sam Lammers, Danilo, Cyriel Dessers and Abdallah Sima all joining in recent weeks.

Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Leon Balogun have been signed to strengthen the defence while Jose Cifuentes and Kieran Dowell will add to the gaffer's midfield options.

However, it's claimed that Beale has reignited his interest in Millwall defender Jake Cooper.

The centre-back was linked with the Light Blues in January but Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin were the only two recruits that window.

But Beale is understood to be keen on adding another body to his backline and the 28-year-old has been identified as a target before the close of play on September 1.
