Quentin Merlin on Celtic transfer radar as Brendan Rodgers 'looking at' deal for Nantes star

The versatile Frenchman has reportedly emerged as a target for the Premiership champions as they look for further signings.

Celtic are reportedly 'looking at the situation' of French wing-back Quentin Merlin as Brendan Rodgers looks to add depth and versatility to his squad.

Celtic are well stacked at left-back as things stand with Greg Taylor reinstalled as first-choice while Alexandro Bernabei appears back in the good books with Rodgers making light of his decision to bomb him out of the squad on opening day - joking "his alarm clock is set now." But that hasn't stopped them looking at further depth in that position as reports in France say 21-year-old Merlin is on their radar.

Reports have emerged concerning the Ligue 1 man, with the Hoops "looking at the situation" of the versatile left-sided star who primarily plays at left-back but has also featured on the wing. The 21-year-old is highly-rated and established in the France under-21 setup having played 64 times already for Nantes.

A price of €8-12m - somewhere between £6.8m and £10.3m is stated and that seems on the high end of what Celtic would be willing to pay for a left-back, especially with two available currently.

It comes amid a big week for Celtic on the transfer front with Gustaf Lagerbielke on the verge as he arrives to replace his countryman Carl Starfelt. There is also believed to be interest in out-of-favour Newcastle winger Ryan Fraser.
