Kenny Miller says there's plenty of familiar faces at Rangers who can ensure their season begins to get off the ground.

A morale-boosting 3-2 aggregate win over Swiss side Servette in the Champions League third round qualifiers has booked a play-off date with destiny against PSV in a repeat of their 2022 scenario at this stage. Michael Beale has brought in nine new signings but performances have been inconsistent in matches, with a tough first half in Geneva responded to with a sturdy second 45.

Defeat to Kilmarnock on the opening Premiership matchday also sparked punter fears but one fan has been left sympathetic to the situation. They called into Clyde SSB to say that Rangers team are still gelling, and that hitting the ground running in Europe isn't always a possibility, even if there would be 'hell to pay' if Servette eliminated them, and leeway should be applied amid a major rebuild. But Miller had a measured response, and pointed out that only three outfield signings not including goalie Jack Butland started in the pressure cooker Champions League match, and that the gelling safety net can't be applied indefinitely. He explained: "All I would say is that I get it's a new team and a lot has been made of the new signings. I am right behind it and I know it takes time. I have been dressing rooms where you sign a lot of players and it takes time, and it takes a lot longer for certain individuals.

"Last night (Tuesday), out of the 10 outfield players, seven of them were there last year. Kilmarnock facing Rangers, there was many new faces, they got the job done, Celtic have new faces, Aberdeen have new faces.

"Take Jack Butland out of it because he's the goalkeeper, you had Jack, Barisic, Goldson, Souttar, Cantwell, Raskin and Tavernier. They have played together and you are trying to incorporate Danilo, Sima and Cifuentes, who had an impressive performance.

"Performance levels have to get better and it is going to take the new signings time. How long do you go on for this excuse about it's a new team? Last night, there were three players out of 10 that were new faces in the outfield starting line-up."

Miller also reckons a clinical touch in front of goal is needed for Beale's side. He added: "There is one thing that has to be better and Michael has even talked about it into last season. Rangers create a lot of big chances and do miss a lot of chances. You don't score from every chance but when you are getting these big moments in these big games, you have to take them."
