Celtic transfer fee for Mathias Kvistgaarden revealed as Hoops target highly-rated Brondby star

CELTIC could have to stump up £4million to land Mathias Kvistgaarden.

SunSport revealed on Sunday the Hoops are weighing up a move for the Brondby frontman.

Kvistgaarden, 21, only penned an extension to his contract until 2027 in March.

Since then he has scored seven goals and made six assists in the Danish Superligaen.

Kvistgaarden has made no secret of his desire to play for a club overseas.

But Brondby’s director of football Carsten Jensen sees Kvistgaarden as a big player for them this season.

Asked about the Parkhead side’s prospect of landing Kvistgaarden, Jensen said: “Basically, it has not been part of the plan.

“We are still in the process of transfers. It’s both relation to ins and outs. We still need to adjust the number of players in the squad, even though we are getting to where we want to be.

“It’s definitely getting closer to what we want to have in our squad. Then we have our eyes and ears open in relation to a few more positions.”

Brondby flogged Jesper Lindstrom to Eintracht Frankfurt for £6million in 2021.

It’s unlikely they’ll demand such a high sum for Kvistgaarden but he has impressed in recent months and sources in the country claim they won’t let him go on the cheap.

Brondby are also already one attacker down after allowing winger Simon Hedlund to rejoin Swedish side Elfsborg last week.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has already spoken out about his need for more quality additions to his Parkhead squad.

The Hoops manager saw his side lose 1-0 at Kilmarnock and let their Viaplay Cup reign slip at the weekend.

A solitary Marley Watkins goal handed the Northern Irishman his first defeat in the competition, having won every League Cup game he managed during his first spell in charge.

Speaking on Viaplay Sports after the match, Rodgers said: “This is a team that’s got a lot of new players in. People will maybe look at it and say ‘this is the same squad’.

“It’s not the same squad. It’s a different squad of players, but still we should have more quality than what we showed today.

“I think it’s always been about quality, I’ve said that before that the team needs match-winners and it needs quality, so that’s hopefully something we can do in the next ten, 11 days.”

Former Hoops boss Neil Lennon has his ideas about where the club should strengthen.

He told the broadcaster: “I’d like to see them get another striker in.
