We have now entered the final 10 days of the 2023 summer transfer window and for Chelsea, it is set to be an extremely busy week-and-a-half.
The Blues have already brought in eight new signings, including multiple youth players, in a near-£350million spending spree this summer. Mauricio Pochettino, who has one point from his first two matches as Chelsea head coach, is still expecting at least a couple more signings before the window closes, football.london understands.
Meanwhile, there are still expected to be multiple departures in the final stages of the transfer window with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi looking to leave Stamford Bridge on permanent deals. There is perhaps scope for others to leave as well, with the futures of Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher remaining uncertain.
Lukaku has interest from Juventus in Italy although there have been significant protests from the Serie A club's supporters over a possible move for the striker. The 30-year-old forward also has mass interest from Saudi Arabia, although he has made it perfectly clear that he wishes to continue playing his football in Europe for the time being.
football.london understands Chelsea are working closely with the Belgium international and his representatives to try and find a solution this summer. The fee the Blues are demanding – believed to be around £40million – could prove a stumbling block in any permanent transfer given his underwhelming 2022/23 season.
A loan move could be a more realistic option for Chelsea and Lukaku – and that way, the Blues will get, at least, a small portion of his high wage demands off their hands. Both parties will be desperate to find a solution, to what has turned out to be quite a mess, in the next few days.

Hudson-Odoi, meanwhile, has plenty of interest from the Premier League as well as abroad. The 22-year-old has agreed personal terms with Fulham but there are still other interested parties from the Premier League trying to hijack any deal.
The Cobham graduate has informed Chelsea he wants to leave the club on a permanent basis this summer with under 12 months left to run on his contract. Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace are also keeping an eye on the situation and could look to make a late move with Fulham unwilling, at the moment, to pay the fee Chelsea are asking for.
In terms of incomings, Chelsea are now expecting to sign goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from New England Revolution. As widely reported on Monday, the Blues have agreed a deal with the MLS club – believed to be around £12.5million, plus another £1.5million in add-ons at a later date.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper is seen as the perfect option to come in and challenge Robert Sanchez, who recently completed a £25million move from Brighton. Chelsea have offloaded both Kepa Arrizabalaga (loan) and Edouard Mendy already this summer.
Petrovic is set to fly to England in the coming days and finalise a move to Chelsea. There is an expectation that he will be in the squad for the Blues' match on Friday against Luton Town.
That's not it for Chelsea, either, in terms of new signings. The club are still looking to add at least one more attacking option to their ranks before the closure of the transfer window. Pochettino wants a right winger who can also operate through the centre as a No.10, football.london understands.
Michael Olise was viewed as the ideal candidate to do just that, but he surprisingly signed a new contract extension at Crystal Palace last week. Chelsea had triggered the Frenchman's release clause at Selhurst Park but the Eagles are said to have not been too happy with the way their London rivals conducted business behind the scenes.
Both Rayan Cherki and Mohammed Kudus remain on the club's radar going into the final 10 days of the window, but there are also other options being considered. Bradley Barcola of Lyon is viewed as one of the best young talents in his position in world football, while Brennan Johnson is massively appreciated by the west Londoners.
football.london has also been told to not rule out the Blues moving for a centre-forward in the final days. There is speculation from elsewhere that Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun is someone the club is looking at, but it remains to be seen whether a move would be possible given the Gunners and the Blues' fierce rivalry.
There are so many things that can change between now and the end of the window – especially with Chelsea. The only thing we can really say for absolute certain is that it will be a busy remaining 10 days.
