Cameron Archer transfer update as Aston Villa agreement struck
Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Cameron Archer is set to undergo a medical ahead of signing for Sheffield United
Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer is closing in on a permanent move to Sheffield United.
An £18.5million deal has been struck for his transfer, and Villa have negotiated a buy-back clause which will allow them to retain a degree of control over the striker's future. BirminghamLive's sister title YorkshireLive has also reported that the first part of a medical is set to take place today.
Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom is hoping the deal will be completed in time for Archer to feature against Manchester City this weekend.
Archer scored 11 goals in 20 appearances for Middlesbrough last season after joining the Championship club on loan for the second half of the campaign. That followed a successful loan stint at Deepdale where he bagged seven goals in 20 appearances for Preston North End.
The 21-year-old featured in all three of Villa's Premier League Summer Series friendlies last month and started in the 2-0 win over Fulham in Orlando. He is now set to leave Unai Emery's squad, which leaves only Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran as the club's options in the striking department.
Before Archer jetted out with the rest of the Villa first-team to the USA, he scored two goals in England's triumph at the European U21 Championships under Lee Carsley.
