Aiden McGeady aims veiled ‘standards’ dig at Lee Johnson as he claims things were ‘brushed under the carpet’ at Hibs

AIDEN McGEADY has hinted that he doesn't think the right standards were being met at Hibs under Lee Johnson.

And he claims things were being 'brushed under the carpet' at training.

Johnson was sacked as Hibs boss on Sunday after just over a year in charge.

The 42-year old paid the price for a dire start to the season with the Easter Road club rock bottom of the Premiership after three defeats from three.

Hibs started the season with a horror defeat to Andorran minnows Inter D'Escaldes but turned the tie around to progress.

They then knocked Swiss side Luzern out, but were dismantled 5-0 by Aston Villa on midweek just gone with Europa Conference League group stage dreams already in tatters after just one leg.

Saturday's 3-2 defeat at home to Livingston proved the final straw and Johnson was dismissed on Sunday.

David Gray, for the third time, is once again in caretaker charge of the Hibees.

Neil Lennon, Scott Brown and Stephen Robinson are among the names being linked with the vacant post.

Aiden McGeady was signed under Johnson at Hibs last summer, but endured an injury-ravaged campaign before leaving at the end of the season.

McGeady, now with Ayr, had previously hit out at Johnson for "retiring me about three times in the media" as he attempted to come back from his injury woes.

And the former Celtic winger appears to have taken a fresh, veiled dig at Johnson when discussing who could be the next Hibs boss.

Appearing on PLZ, McGeady claimed that caretaker boss Gray has "got standards" and says things were being brushed under the carpet at training, which McGeady claims both he and Gray agreed upon.

McGeady said: "I like David. I think David's got standards.

"David's got standards, David has seen a lot of things that I was seeing and was agreeing with.

"Not going behind the manager's back or anything but things in training that would just be kind of brushed under the carpet a little bit, David would be seeing them and be on the same page as me.

"Who knows, David might have a chance if he does well."
