Ex-Chelsea flop could return to Premier League 12 months after Blues 'blocked' transfer

Former Chelsea and Crystal Palace striker Michy Batshuayi, who has spent the past year at Fenerbahce could be about to seal a move back to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest

Ex-Chelsea flop Michy Batshuayi is reportedly on the verge of returning to the Premier League, 12 months after his Deadline Day move to Nottingham Forest fell through.

The Belgian striker, who currently plays for Turkish club Fenerbahce, is said to be back in talks with Forest and could seal a move to the East Midlands club in time for their trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

It'll give Batshuayi the chance to exact a little revenge on Chelsea after they bungled his departure a year ago by sending Forest the relevant paperwork a few minutes after the transfer deadline passed.

A few days later he joined Fenerbahce instead, and went on to score 20 goals in 32 matches in all competitions last season.

The 29-year-old spent six years on Chelsea's books, though the vast majority of that was spent either out on loan or warming the sub bench.

He joined the club from Marseille in 2016 after smashing in 21 Ligue 1 goals but spent his debut campaign playing second-fiddle to Diego Costa. The Blues won the Premier League that year, with Batshuayi scoring the goal that sealed the title against West Brom, but that was as good as it ever got for him in a Chelsea shirt.

Over the next few years he had loan spells at Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace and Besiktas, with varying degrees of success, before eventually being sold to Fenerbahce, leaving Stamford Bridge with a record of 25 goals in 77 matches - though he started just five of them.

Should the move to Forest go through Batshuayi will be the sixth man through the door at the City Ground this summer following permanent deals for Chris Wood, Anthony Elanga, Ola Aina and Matt Turner, and loan moves for Gonzalo Montiel and Andrey Santos.

Underwhelming spells in English football aside, Batshuayi's goals-per-minutes ratio isn't to be sniffed at, nor is his record at international level (27 goals in 51 games) despite typically deputising for Romelu Lukaku.
