Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is expected to move to Aston Villa before the transfer window closes, according to reports in Spain.

The former Tottenham loanee was first linked with a move to Villa Park on Tuesday, and it seems that a deal is moving quickly. Barcelona are expecting the 28-year-old to leave before the deadline passes on Friday.

According to Marca, "everything indicates" that the player’s next move will be to Villa, unless something "unexpected" happens. The report also adds that Lenglet has turned down offers from Saudi Arabia due to wanting to continue to play in Europe.

Villa may have made their move for the centre-back following injury to Tyrone Mings. The captain picked up a serious knee injury in the 4-0 win against Everton 10 days ago, and faces a long spell on the sidelines.

Lenglet spent last season on loan with Tottenham, meaning that he will also bring Premier League experience to the team and shouldn’t take time to adapt to the English game. During his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium he played a total of 35 times in all competitions, scoring in a 2-1 Champions League win over Marseille in November.

Other reports in Spain claim that the player has offers from former club Sevilla and Valencia. It is claimed that he was close to rejoining Sevilla on a two-year loan but a late move from a Premier League club put that deal on ice.

It is claimed by Sport that a deal to Villa will be a loan deal in order for Barcelona to save on his wages. The report also says that Villa is the ‘best option’ for the defender in the final days of the window.
