Former Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson closes in on move to Danish club
Former Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is reportedly close to joining Danish top flight side Lyngby.
Sigurdsson, who turns 34 in September, has not played a competitive match in over two years, which was Everton's 5-0 defeat at Manchester City on the final day of the 2020/21 season.
The Iceland international, who has previously represented Reading, Swansea and Tottenham, left Goodison Park upon the expiration of his contract in June 2022. He's also played for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
He joined the Toffees in a club-record £45million deal in June 2017 and was Ronald Koeman's first signing at Everton.
The Athletic reports Sigurdsson is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Danish Superliga club, which is based on the outskirts of Copenhagen.
The report adds that he was going through the final stages of a medical with Lyngby, who finished tenth in the Danish Superliga last season.

Lyngby's head coach, Freyr Alexandersson, is also from Iceland, as are first-team trio Saevar Atli Magnusson, Andri Lucas Gudjohnsen, and Kolbeinn Finnsson.
It's unclear when Sigurdsson will be fit to make his debut for Lyngby as he's currently nursing an Achilles tendon injury.
Sigurdsson had been linked with MLS side DC United in a move that would've seen him link up with former Everton teammate Wayne Rooney.
A move never materialised and Sigurdsson has been training in his home town of Reyjkavik while he looks to relaunch his career.
