Gylfi Sigurdsson 'on the verge' of joining new club a year after leaving Everton
Gylfi Sigurdsson's two-year absence from football could soon be over with the free agent reportedly close to signing for his first club since leaving Premier League side Everton
Former Everton playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson is reportedly set to join Danish side Lyngby.
Sigurdsson, 33, hasn't played competitive football since the final day of the 2020/21 Premier League season in a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City, with his contract on Merseyside expiring last summer.
He's been without a club for the last year, but that's soon going to change, according to The Athletic. They claim his move to Lyngby is close to being completed.
The club, located on the outskirts of capital Copenhagen, already have a strong Icelandic contingent with manager Freyr Alexandersson and players Saevar Atli Magnusson, Andri Lucas Gudjohnsen, and Kolbeinn Finnsson.

Their director of football, Nicas Kjeldsen, said this week: "We have been in dialogue with Gylfi for almost 14 days, and in that process we have found a common interest in Gylfi becoming a Lyngby player.
"We have a verbal agreement and plan at the moment, but there are many things that still need to fall into place. Including that we must have an overview of his physical condition after a long period without a match and organised training. So it will still be some time before everything is possibly in place."
Sigurdsson is currently recovering from an Achilles tendon injury. He is said to have undergone the final stages of a medical on Wednesday (August 30).
The midfielder, who has spent most of his career in England with spells at Reading, Tottenham and Swansea and became Everton's record signing after his £45million arrival in 2017, had been linked with Wayne Rooney's MLS side DC United earlier this year.
That move didn't materialise, though, despite Sigurdsson reportedly travelling to the States. He's been training in his home town of Reyjkavik while waiting for the next club of his career.
