Aston Villa fans have been left wondering if selling Cameron Archer was a mistake as he scored his first goal for Sheffield United.

The 21-year-old sealed a switch from the Villains to the Blades in the final days of the transfer window in an £18million deal.

Archer made 14 senior appearances for Villa before his move, having come through their academy.

However, fans believe they have lost out on a huge talent as he was quick to get off the mark for his new side.

The England youth forward netted a fine first-time finish to bring Sheffield United level against Everton.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Villa fans reacted to the goal from one of their former prospects: "Cameron Archer doing Cameron Archer things."

A second said: "Should’ve never let him go imo [in my opinion], natural finisher."

"I know it’s early days but I think we've made a mistake letting him go," added a third.

A fourth said: "Loving Emery but have a feeling letting him go might have been a mistake. I suppose it's only Everton but time will tell."

Villa are reported to have included a buy-back clause for Archer, meaning he could in fact return at some point in the future.

His goal was key for Sheffield United though as Everton took the lead after 14 minutes through Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Archer then had a helping hand in their second goal as his shot off the post hit Jordan Pickford and went into the back of the net.

Everton drew level in the second half though as Arnaut Danjuma scored his second for the club.

Pickford's late heroics in the Everton net ensured that both sides have left Bramall Lane with a point.
