Liverpool reloaded could result in two more signings and major changes in 2026

We look into our crystal ball to try and predict what Liverpool's starting line-up could look like three years from now

The summer of 2023 will forever be remembered as one of the most transformative of Jurgen Klopp's reign at Anfield.

After seeing their 2021/22 quadruple charge followed up with a lousy fifth-place finish in the Premier League, the German oversaw wholesale changes during the summer as the Reds waved goodbye to long-standing Kop legends like James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, while Arthur Melo and Naby Keita also saw their Liverpool careers ended during the off-season months.

As a result, Liverpool spent £115m in the transfer market as they financed a much-needed midfield overhaul with the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion, Dominik Szoboszlai of RB Leipzig as well as Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch from fellow Bundesliga sides Stuttgart and Bayern Munich.

In Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, Liverpool have signed three players under the age of 25, and it will be hoped they can enjoy long, thriving careers at Anfield. It means that should all go to play, they will be instrumental in the Reds ensuring success, akin to Klopp's first great Liverpool side, is returned to L4.

But a few years from now, how could Liverpool's side look? We've jumped to 2026 to predict what life - potentially without Klopp - could look like for the Reds.

Goalkeeper.

After celebrating his fifth anniversary at Liverpool earlier this year, it's somewhat difficult to comprehend that Alisson Becker is just 30 years old. At the start of the 2026/27 season, the Brazilian will be just shy of his 34th birthday but, as a goalkeeper, will still have plenty left to give at the top level.

And if history in the Premier League is anything to go by, then after Edwin van der Sar, Peter Schmeichel, Brad Friedel and Shay Given all continued their careers in the top flight past their 39th birthdays, Alisson will be hoping to do the same.

The Brazilian's current contract at Anfield runs until 2027, but don't rule out the prospect of him penning fresh terms before 2026.

Defence

Like Alisson, given everything Trent Alexander-Arnold has achieved since his debut at Old Trafford as a fearless 18-year-old in January 2017, it's remarkable to think the West Derby star is just 24 years old.

And having recently been promoted to vice-captain following Milner and Henderson's departures this summer, there is every possibility that the flying full-back will be the Reds' full-time captain come 2026, with Virgil van Dijk not getting any younger. As a result, he will absolutely continue to be an ever-present figure for the Reds.

Alongside Alexander-Arnold, will surely be Ibrahima Konate, who has established himself as the heir to Van Dijk's throne with his impressive performance since making the move to Anfield from RB Leipzig in 2021.

Following the news that Liverpool could be eyeing a swoop for long-time target Lloyd Kelly as he enters the final year of his contract with Bournemouth, the left-sided centre-half could prove to be the perfect defensive addition to Liverpool will some defensive stability, as well as futureproofing their ranks as they prepare to wave goodbye to Joel Matip.

At full-back, while Andy Robertson has been one of Liverpool's most outstanding servants of the Klopp era, it's fair to say many will expect him to be playing his football away from Anfield come August 2026.

For that reason, versatile academy full-back Luke Chambers could handed the chance to impress after catching the eye during his first senior stint away from Anfield last season as he helped Kilmarnock retain their Scottish Premiership status.

Midfield

Judging by the early performances of their Anfield careers, Szoboszlai and Mac Allister will be expected to be key components of Liverpool's midfield for years to come.

Alongside the new signings, could be Stefan Bajcetic. However, it remains to be seen whether the Spaniard is viewed as a viable option for the Reds' current defensive midfield troubles.

Certainly, if his performances during the Reds' hour of need last campaign are the litmus test for the 18-year-old rookie, then the Spaniard has a very bright future at Anfield.

Attack

Although a lot can happen in three years' time, Liverpool are currently well-stocked when it comes to attacking options.

But with Mohamed Salah being eyed as the latest high-profile addition to the Saudi Pro League, Anfield officials will surely be drawing up a shortlist of possible replacements for the Egyptian to ensure they aren't caught unaware by any changes to the 31-year-old's future.

In such circumstances, Napoli's dynamite winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will surely be a name near the top of Liverpool's wishlist after his remarkable debut season with the Italian outfit, in which he helped Napoli win their first Scudetto in 33 years. Despite having hardly featured on the right during his first campaign in Italy, Kvaratskhelia featured there during his time with Rubin Kazin in Russia.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are well stacked with Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota to fill the remaining two positions.
