
Bayern Munich unveil Gerd Müller statue at the Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich have officially unveiled a statue of the club's record goalscorer, Gerd Müller, at their iconic Allianz Arena home.
Bayern, in partnership with the Kurt Landauer Foundation, inaugurated the statue in commemoration of a footballing giant in Müller.
The sculpture, which sits proudly along the Allianz Arena walkway, was created by the artist Karel Fron and financed through donation from supporters of Bayern and its fan clubs.

Made entirely of bronze, the statue showcases Müller in full goal celebration mode, something he was able to do 568 times for the club across a storied career that took in four Bundesliga winners' medals, another four DFB Cup glories and also saw Müller lift the European Cup three times with Bayern as well as becoming a European and World champion with Germany.
"At FC Bayern you always have to preserve what was and what is. Gerd was an incredible player - and a great person who we will never forget. Today is a venerable day to remember him. He and Franz Beckenbauer are the icons 'that FC Bayern has produced,'" said former strike-partner, and honourary club president, Uli Hoeneß.

Bayern CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen added: "Gerd Müller was always a player who was particularly loved by the fans, who was one for everyone throughout his life: deeply down-to-earth, despite his extraordinary successes. It is therefore a wonderful sign that the fans are giving him a monument - Gerd Müller will forever be an inspiration for our club, across generations."
