Phillips joined the Hoops on an initial six-month loan but he's already planning for a January chat over seeing out the season.

Nat Phillips says conversations will be had in January over whether he can stay at Celtic longer than the next six months.

But for now he's focused on stepping up to aid the injury crisis facing Brendan Rodgers. Phillips signed on an initial loan until January as he provides short-term cover for Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh - all of whom are sidelined. He could make his debut against Dundee this weekend and is hoping he can nail down a starting spot.

If he does, Phillips is open to staying beyond the terms of his initial loan and says he'll hold talks with Celtic and Liverpool nearer the time to see what can be done. For now though he's ready to roll up his sleeves and do the job Rodgers is asking of him. He said: "We've not gone into that in too much detail. There's a lot of injuries at the moment and there's a hole there that I can hopefully fill.

"Hopefully I can come in, play games, take it step by step and get into the rhythm of things. When that comes then maybe there will be a conversation, but that's way off into the future.

"Ultimately there will be a review and a conversation in January. I don't know when exactly the other boys are due to be back in fit and training, but we've not had the conversation about that yet."
