Nat Phillips has heaped praise on Liverpool and Scotland youngster Ben Doak.

Phillips recently completed a short-term loan north of the border to the Scottish Premiership, where he will play for Brendan Rodgers' Celtic, after being used as an emergency option for most of his Liverpool career.

During his time at the AXA Training Centre, Phillips got well-acquainted with former Parkhead prospect Doak, who made the move to Liverpool from Celtic in March 2022. The 17-year-old is catching the attention of many with his impressive cameos for the Reds and there are now conversations surrounding a possible promotion to the Scotland senior squad.

Phillips, who sat out Celtic's 1-0 win in the Old Firm derby at Rangers before the international break, was officially presented to the Scottish media on Wednesday and fielded questions on his young Liverpool team-mate, admitting the anticipation around Doak comes as no surprise.

"From what I've seen from Doaky, plenty of people have plenty of reason to be excited," said Phillips.

"He's very confident. Sometimes young boys come up to the first team and play within themselves but that's not been the case with him. He's electric when he's running at players - he's happy to run at anyone. If he continues to progress the way he's doing, he'll do well.

"Fearless is the way I'd describe him, he's got bags of ability, especially in one-v-one situations. The rest is up to Ben and how he applies himself and his game. The basic tools and the foundations are there to become a great player."

In March, Doak will celebrate his second year as a Liverpool player. However, November will prompt the anniversary of the winger's debut for the Reds as he came on as a substitute against Derby County in the Carabao Cup.

Doak has been named in the Reds' Europa League squad as Jurgen Klopp's side prepare to take on LASK, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Toulouse. He is expected to be given plenty of game time in the competition.
