Che Adams, Nico Elvedi and three other players Everton could sign for free next summer

There are a number of players that could be on Everton's transfer radar having entered the final year of their contract

The transfer window has only just slammed shut but Everton will have a list of targets that remain on the club’s radar.

The Blues had to be aware of financial constraints throughout the summer but were still able to bring in five signings to bolster their ranks.

Both Beto and Arnaut Danjuma have made an early impact for Everton, who will soon hope to hand Jack Harrison his debut. But it will not be too long before the Blues begin plotting their next moves.

With that in mind, here’s a look at five players who have entered the final year of their contract and could head to Goodison Park on a free transfer by this time next year.

Nico Elvedi

Starting in defence, Everton were linked with a move for the Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back during the recent transfer window.

The Switzerland international, 26, has been a mainstay of Gladbach’s defence since 2016 and has played Champions League and Europa League football during his time with the club. Elvedi has admitted that it was an "intense" transfer window, in terms of his own future, but has been brought back into Gladbach’s first team.

Jarrad Branthwaite looks to be a long-term fit at centre-back for the Blues but they may well want to freshen up their other options.

Ian Maatsen

Everton could attempt an ambitious move for Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen next summer.

The 21-year-old has featured in four games under Mauricio Pochettino already this season and is highly-rated after helping Burnley earn promotion last term. The Lancashire side reportedly attempted to sign Maatsen in a £32m deal but he wanted to fight for his place at Chelsea. However, he is yet to agree a new deal.

For Everton, Ashley Young is not a long-term solution at left-back, and Maatsen is a player with plenty of potential.

Pape Gueye

The defensive midfielder, 24, has gained considerable experience since signing for Marseille from Le Havre in 2020. Gueye has made 100 appearances for the French giants and spent part of last season on loan at Sevilla.

However, he is currently serving a four-month suspension for a breach of contract, dating back to his arrival at OM, and his decision to back out of a move to Watford, despite already agreeing a deal.

Gueye has played at the highest level, including in the Champions League, and could prove to be a bargain replacement for his namesake at Everton.

Josh Dasilva

Another smart addition could come in the form of Brentford midfielder Dasilva.

The box-to-box midfielder responded to an injury-hit 21/22 campaign last time out, making 36 league appearances for Thomas Frank’s side, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

Dasilva, 24, would bring a different skillset to Everton’s midfield, as well as providing strength in depth.

Che Adams

The Southampton striker was a target for Everton in the recent transfer window.

Adams, 27, was thought to be on the same list of targets as Beto, who completed his move to the Blues. The Scotland international spent four seasons in the top-flight with the Saints and is currently flourishing in the Championship, scoring three goals in four games.

He is likely to be on plenty of Premier League radars, particularly if his scoring rate continues and he does not sign a new contract at Southampton.
