Fans slammed the Saudi Pro League as "worse than Sunday league" as they reacted to a clip of a skill move.

The sixth Saudi gameweek of the season got underway on Thursday (September 14), with defending champions Al-Ittihad travelling to face Al-Akhdoud, who were promoted from the second tier last season.

Karim Benzema's second-half strike was all that separated the two sides, with some of his fellow summer arrivals in Luiz Felipe, N'Golo Kante and Fabinho also featuring for Ittihad.

It was a moment involving former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho which caught the attention on social media as he was nutmegged by opposition striker Leandre Tawamba.

It was uploaded to X, formerly Twitter, by the Pro League's official English language account, with fans stunned at the slow pace of the game. One replied: "Sunday League is a higher standard than this. Not even joking."

A second echoed: "I could literally play in this league...the level is shambolic, we have thousands of pitches every Sunday filled with half cut 40 year olds still hung over with more commitment on show than this league..."

A third commented: "Everyone looks like they're walking lmao!" And a fourth joked: "Thanks for slowing it down.. The clip’s not quite sold me on the league yet."

"Lmao everyone on the pitch looks like they care as much as me playing pick up with the boys," wrote a fifth, while a sixth sarcastically asked: "Which charity match was this?"

Fabinho, who moved to the Middle East in a £40million switch from Merseyside, was left with egg on his face despite the win, which was Ittihad's fifth in the league and saw them move to the top of the table, at least temporarily with most teams still to play over the weekend.

In the other match on Thursday evening, former Manchester United loanee Odion Ighalo scored a hat-trick for Al-Wehda to fire them to a 4-2 victory over Damac.
