Jon Dahl Tomasson wants to see ruthless streak from Blackburn ahead of Sunderland visit
Jon Dahl Tomasson gave his verdict after his Blackburn side beat Middlesbrough 2-1
Jon Dahl Tomasson prepares his side for the visit of Sunderland on Wednesday night with one key criticism following their 2-1 win over Championship strugglers Middlesbrough. Both sides head into the midweek fixtures with weekend victories in what could be a mouthwatering encounter.
Tony Mowbray takes his Black Cats to his old stomping ground of Ewood Park knowing that an away win could send the Wearsiders fourth in table following a four-match unbeaten run which has consigned early season fears to the dustbin. Saturday's 3-1 win over QPR meant it's been more than a month since Sunderland have tasted defeat, although they know Rovers will be a tough test
Former AC Milan striker Tomasson saw his side beat Boro 2-1 thanks to two Sammie Szmodics goals either side of the half-time interval that ultimately proved enough to take the three points. But the Rovers manager felt his side should have been well clear before Matt Crooks pulled one back - although the Boro forward looked well offside.
"It is a fantastic result, when we analyse Middlesbrough, we knew it would be a very difficult game," Tomasson said. "It was great to see the amount of chances we created. We should have been 3-0 up at half-time. The frustrating part is we didn't score those goals. Then we scored very difficult goals, great goals.
"They got a goal back and it can be difficult in those moments. Our fans helped us in those moments. It was great to see us win in our 5,000th league game and see the legends in the stadium. It was an excellent performance.
"By the way, when the linesman and referee watch this back, they will be disappointed with big moments in the game. [The goal] was offside. We all make mistakes and I think when the referee and the linesman look back, they will be disappointed. That is part of football. Mistakes happen but he was totally alone, three metres from goal."
