PSG president accuses Messi of lying and says 'everyone saw' truth of World Cup spat

Nasser Al-Khelaifi has accused Lionel Messi of lying after the Argentine superstar claimed he had a 'lack of recognition' from his club after winning the World Cup

PSG's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has slammed Lionel Messi after he claimed the French giants did little to celebrate his World Cup success with Argentina.

Messi conquered the world with Argentina last December, but he was left annoyed by the supposed 'lack of recognition' from his club. The 36-year-old was furious, pointing to the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Alexis Mac Allister - who were heavily celebrated.


However, Al-Khelaifi has now slammed Messi: "As everyone saw, because we even published a video, we celebrated Messi in training, and we also celebrated him in private!

"But with respect, we are a French club. It was of course sensitive to celebrate at the stadium. We must respect the country he defeated, his teammates on the France team, and our supporters too."

France had the chance to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to retain the World Cup, but they were beaten by a Messi on a mission to claim the one trophy that has always eluded him.

Messi left PSG over the summer, and he moved stateside to join Inter Miami.

The 36-year-old has been enjoying life in the states, and he's become the talk of the nation with some exceptional performances for Miami. However, Messi is currently out of the squad injured, and Miami head coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino has given an update.

Martino confirmed Messi is struggling with some "old scar tissue" from a previous injury.
