Newcastle United hammered Sheffield United at Bramall Lane with their biggest victory in almost quarter of a century. The scary thing is it could easily have been more in Yorkshire as the goals in rained in on Wes Foderingham between the sticks for the Blades.

Afterwards Eddie Howe stated he wasn’t full satisfied with the performance and that there’s always room for more. Amusingly Howe was also struggling to recall the big moments in the game given the size of the scoreline.

Howe said afterwards: "The big thing for us was that we really wanted to score and we weren't content with three and I want that mentality to run through the team."

And then, when asked to pay tribute to the eight scorers, he quipped: “I can’t remember them!”

The record that’s still yet to be matched

Newcastle’s 8-0 win may have been the biggest scoreline since the battering of Sheff Wed in 1999. But Newcastle only levelled the Premier League record overall. It was the biggest away win in the Premier League though, that can’t be taken away.

The biggest scoreline ever was 13-0 over Newport County back in 1946. After other chances went begging and 22 goal attempts were carved, Newcastle were still a little off that phenomenal record.

Sean Longstaff ends his own personal drought in Premier League

Longstaff’s opener was a personal moment of satisfaction for the midfielder as he grabbed his first of the season. His last goals came in the 2-1 win in the Carabao Cup over Southampton which booked Newcastle a place at Wembley.

But his last Premier League goal had been in another big away win against Fulham in a 4-1 win last autumn. You get the feeling that Longstaff will not wait another 11 months for his next in the top-flight.
