Former Birmingham City manager Garry Monk is reportedly on Sampdoria's shortlist to replace Andrea Pirlo.

The 44-year-old spent just over a year in charge at St Andrew's. Monk has been out of a job since leaving Sheffield Wednesday in 2020.

However, reports in Italy claim that Monk could make a sensational return to management. Italian football legend Pirlo is believed to be under pressure at the club and owner Andrea Radrizzani is reportedly considering making a change.

It remains a doubt whether Pirlo will be in the dugout for their Serie B clash with Ascoli this weekend. Pirlo was appointed as manager in late June but has had a difficult start to the season.

Sampdoria sit 19th after winning just one game while losing five. SampNews24 add that Radrizzani has apparently drawn up a list of potential managers on which Monk features.

Monk has no managerial experience abroad and spent his playing career in England. Radrizzani, meanwhile, is familiar with Monk from the time the pair spent together at Elland Road, after the Italian bought a 50 per cent share of Leeds in 2017.
