Tottenham legend Jan Vertonghen has called for a replay of the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in 2019.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp insists the 2-1 defeat to Spurs should be replayed after VAR failed to overturn an incorrectly-disallowed Luis Diaz goal for offside.

The PGMOL has released chaotic audio of video assistant referee Darren England making the glaring mistake on Saturday.

Speaking on Wednesday, Klopp said: "I think the outcome should be a replay.

"The argument against that would be it opens the gates. It is unprecedented, it has not happened before.

"I'm used to wrong and difficult decisions, but something like this never happened and so that is why I think a replay is the right thing to do."

The Liverpool boss admitted this was an unlikely scenario because of the precedent it would set.

Tottenham fans have attempted to prove that very point by calling for the Champions League final in 2019 to be replayed.

Spurs lost the match 2-0 and found themselves behind with seconds of the kick-off.

A Sadio Mane cross struck Moussa Sissoko on the chest and then arm from close range, leading to a VAR-awarded penalty.

The handball rule was changed the following season to lower the threshold for accidental incidents inside the box.

One Tottenham fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: "If the Liverpool match gets replayed it'll set a huge precedent. See you in Madrid, Jurgen!"

And Vertonghen, who played in that game, was quick to agree.

The former Spurs defender retweeted the post and added: "Count me in!"
