Dean Smith could make surprise return to management after Aston Villa and Leicester City exits

Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as former manager emerges as a favourite for Sheffield Wednesday job

Former Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has emerged as a candidate for the vacant head coach job at Sheffield Wednesday. The Championship club parted ways with Xisco Munoz on Wednesday night after he failed to win any of his 10 games in charge. The Owls collected just two points under Munoz in their worst ever start to a season.

Smith has been out of a job since leaving Leicester City in the summer following their relegation to the Championship. It's not the first time he has been linked with the job at Hillsborough however. Prior to the club appointing Munoz, the acknowledged Villa fan had been linked.

According to the Oddschecker website, Smith is now third favourite for the job at 7/1, behind managerial veteran Neil Warnock (7/4) and former Luton, Stoke and Southampton boss Nathan Jones (5/1). Former West Bromwich Albion chief Slaven Bilic is placed below Smith at 12/1.
