Here are your Aston Villa headlines on Saturday, October 7.
Ollie Watkins targets
Ollie Watkins is determined to win trophies with Aston Villa and break the club’s all-time Premier League goal record after signing a new five-year contract.
The 27-year-old needs to score 30 more goals to better Gabby Agbonlahor’s tally of 73 in claret and blue. Watkins is the club’s fourth top scorer and will equal Dion Dublin’s league tally if he scores four more times.
Watkins joined Villa from Brentford in the summer of 2020 in a deal worth £30million and has since scored 50 goals in all competitions for the club. Since Unai Emery’s arrival at Villa Park, Watkins has bagged 22 goals in all competitions and his output has been key to the club’s progress on the pitch.
Diaby and Kamara latest
Unai Emery has confirmed Boubacar Kamara and Moussa Diaby could feature for Aston Villa against Wolves this Sunday.
Kamara and Diaby both missed the club’s 1-0 win over Zrinjski Mostar in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night through injury after being replaced late on in Villa's 6-1 thrashing of Brighton last weekend. Both players will train at Bodymoor Heath on Saturday and face late fitness tests ahead of the Premier League clash at Molineux.
Meanwhile, Jacob Ramsey has been ruled out after suffering a reoccurence of the metatarsal injury he suffered back in July. Alex Moreno is due to return to training following the October international break as he steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Aston Villa response
Aston Villa have pledged to provide upgrades to facilities across Villa Park after receiving complaints from supporters.
Fans have voiced their concerns about the state of the concourses and poor organisation with regards to catering on a matchday. In the club’s latest Fan Advisory Board meeting, supporters claimed little progress has been made to remedy these issues.
The club have since responded to growing frustrations and have made the following notes after the meeting: “We understand the frustration experienced by supporters and respect the feedback we receive. In Lower Holte we have introduced the frictionless kiosk system and self-pour facilities which have had a positive effect.
Peter Crouch hint
Former Aston Villa striker Peter Crouch has teased a return to football after he posed with a Burton Albion shirt in a picture posted on the club's social media.
The 42-year-old retired from the professional game in July 2019 after a spell at Burnley. He has since been working as a television pundit for TNT Sports.
But the former England international may now be set for a comeback with League One strugglers Burton. The Brewers currently sit 18th in English football's third tier.
