Pundits Clinton Morrison and Robert Earnshaw agree that Birmingham City should not have been awarded a penalty during their victory over West Brom on Friday evening.

Baggies defender Cedric Kipre fouled Blues man Koji Miyoshi in the box midway through the first half, and referee James Linington immediately pointed to the spot. Juninho Bacuna sent Alex Palmer the wrong way to equalise, before Blues went on to win 3-1.

Speaking about the penalty on Sky Sports after the game, Earnshaw said: "It's definitely not a penalty. It's a really bad decision from the referee. He (goalkeeper) cannot believe what he's seeing. He's just so mad that it's not a goal kick. Sometimes I think the players reaction gives you a lot, gives you a lot in what it is. It is a clumsy challenge.

"I think (the studs being up) that's the only reason he does give it. He sees the studs go up but I think what the 'keeper is actually trying to do... he knows Miyoshi's going to chop him and because he's going to chop him, he's thinking right, ok, one, I have to close my legs. And number two, I have to get a little block on it.

"And what you do generally as a football player, you, you kind of raise your left leg and he raises his left leg here because he knows, oh, ok, he's going to chop me and I can't get there. So I have to try and block it quickly.

"And what happens? He actually catches a shin. Listen, it's a clumsy challenge but you cannot give that as a penalty. No way."

Former Blues striker Morrison agreed, adding: "It did turn the game because after that, they had probably had a mad 10 or 15 minutes and you can see the players were happy with, they were all amazed. They all went by the referee.

"But Bacuna, he stepped up and it's a really confident penalty. It did change the game and for me it wasn't a penalty, no."
