Cheltenham score for first time in 154 days as one of EFL's longest goal droughts ends
One of English football's longest goal droughts is finally at an end after Cheltenham Town found the back of the net against Derby to end a run of 11 games without scoring
Cheltenham Town have ended their long wait for an EFL goal by finally finding the net against Derby County.
The Robins had been on one of the longest drought in English football history, having failed to find the back of the net in their first 11 games of the new season. They did score in the EFL Trophy against Bristol Rovers last month, but even that was an own goal.
However, they're now finally off the mark in League One at the 12th time of asking after Rob Street scored against the Rams. It's the first time Cheltenham have scored in the league since former star Alfie May found the net in the 88th minute against Charlton Athletic on the final day of last season.

It wasn't enough to secure three points for the Gloucestershire side though, as Curtis Nelson equalised for Derby later in the half to ensure the spoils were shared. But fans on social media nonetheless lavished Cheltenham with praise after finally ending their painfully-long scoreless, which ran for over 1,000 minutes.
"OMG we've finally done it," one relieved Robins fan wrote on X afterwards, "I'd genuinely forgotten what scoring felt like." Another said: "I legitimately stopped believing this moment would come."

To put their miserable run into context, their last goal before time came at a time when Frank Lampard was Chelsea manager, King Charles hadn't been coronated, and Cristiano Ronaldo was the only elite-level talent playing in the Saudi Pro League. The run cost manager Wade Elliott his job and left the club staring down the barrel of relegation before Halloween.

After picking up just their second point of the season, Cheltenham can finally start looking up, though they'll have to keep scoring to stand any chance of staying of division.
